KATIE K.

by Greggory Moore

Katie K. That's what I imagine her name to be. See, her car's license plate is "4KTK400" -- "For Katie K.," I'm guessing, maybe "400 times over"? I don't know. There are other possibilities, of course: "[The] Fork 80K 400" -- a 400-mile stock car race in South Fork with $80,000 in prize money? That particular meaning seems unlikely, but you get the idea.
I'm sitting on the bus when I see her. She's alone in her little silver machine and as attractive as can be. She's reorganizing her shoulder-length, blond hair, taking off the band that had held it back, fluffing it out, shaking her head. She has a simple face behind those black sunglasses, pretty in an unassuming way. She's small and thin, and seems utterly without affect.
She's beautiful, my Katie K., she's captivating.     NEXT
