As I suspected, the only reason Christine approached my desk that particular Monday was because she wanted to set me up.
"She's just like you."
That was enough to get me to take the number.
"Bonnie, this is Ron Wall."
"Precisely on the third day after Christine gave you my number. How original."
"Look, I don't mind going out," I started.
"Right."
"But my credit cards are maxed and I just scraped my last dimes for rent. Can you pay?"
Thick silence. I knew she was weighing options on how to avoid meeting a man and his crisis.
"Okay, but wear a raincoat. My monkey throws his crap at strangers. It only took him six months to recognize my last boyfriend."
"My best friend works with monkeys. If I bring the beer he lets me flip the switch during the experiments."
