Late afternoon descended on the A-frame midway up the bluff overlooking the frozen lake where the children were skating. The three pairs of parents lounged around the great room, wine glasses in hand, laughing and catching up on events and milestones. Jason was Robert's best friend since grade school, and Alex, who was married to Stephanie, was Robert's cousin; Stephanie knew Julia, Jason's wife, from college and had helped her battle breast cancer; and Robert's wife, Felicia, owned a catering company with Julia's sister. |
