WRONG NUMBER

by Don Perkins

"Hello, is this the photo studio?"
"No, their number ends in 6635 not 6639," I say.
I never used to have this trouble, but now I'm getting so many wrong numbers that I decide to take action. I call Mr. Simon, the owner of the photo studio.
"You may not realize it, sir, but a lot of the people trying to phone you are dialing me. There's only a one digit difference in our numbers. It's a nuisance."
"Good god, man, what do you expect me to do?" he asks sarcastically and swears.
"Well, it'd help if you'd change your number."
"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Do you realize how expensive it'd be to get new letterheads and brochures printed? I wouldn't think of going to that expense." He swears again and hangs up.
It doesn't seem ridiculous to me. But if that's the way he feels, then I'll go to Plan B.
My phone rings and a female voice asks, "Is this the portrait studio?"
"Yes, how may I help you?"
"I'd like to get pictures of my three kids. You offering any specials?"
"Yes, we are. We offer a group rate on photos of children."
     "How does that work?"
"Just stop by any time and wait until there are at least ten kids here. Then we shoot the entire bunch and you only pay the group rate rather than a single portrait rate. You'll save quite a bit."
